In a recent statement, the Indiana men’s basketball program has officially announced the return of head coach Mike Woodson for the 2024-2025 season. Under Woodson’s stewardship, the Hoosiers have made a substantial impact, securing two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament during his first two seasons. This accomplishment brought an end to Indiana’s five-year absence from March Madness and was complemented by an impressive 44-26 record.
Despite encountering difficulties this season, with the team currently holding a 16-13 record as the regular season draws to a close, Woodson’s expertise and guidance have proven to be invaluable. Despite the slim chance of a postseason appearance, the team remains resolute in finishing the season on a high note.
At 65 years old, Woodson has dispelled any retirement speculation, affirming his physical and mental readiness to continue coaching. Having represented Indiana as a player from 1976 to 1980 before embarking on a successful NBA career, Woodson’s deep roots in the sport are evident in his passion and dedication to basketball.
“I’m almost 66 but I feel good and still move around, and I think I still think well in terms of the game, and I still think I can teach the game,” Woodson confidently stated on Feb. 20. “I’ll take it a day at a time, a year at a time. I’m not going anywhere any time soon, guys, I’m just not.”
Woodson’s contract will remain in effect until March 2027, providing stability and consistency to the program as they look towards future seasons. The decision to retain Woodson reflects the faith and confidence placed in his leadership, as well as his capacity to motivate and guide the team.
