Great Western Railway’s Additional Trains for Six Nations Rugby Match

Great Western Railway has formally announced the provision of extra trains to accommodate the large influx of fans journeying to the Six Nations rugby match between Wales and France at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium this Sunday. The additional trains will facilitate over 27,000 additional seats, guaranteeing that all supporters can arrive at the game in a timely manner.

Preceding the 15.00 kick-off, the railway company will operate a total of 27 trains to Cardiff, including five additional trains offering an extra 2,600 seats. Moreover, post-match, there will be 25 trains departing from Cardiff, encompassing five extra services with approximately 3,000 additional seats. In anticipation of the expected surge in passengers, a queuing system will be enforced outside Cardiff Central station, as trains following the match are poised to be exceptionally crowded.

Passengers are strongly advised to allocate adequate time for queuing and to embark safely on their trains, particularly those travelling east towards Newport, who will be directed to queuing areas in front of Cardiff Central instead of Riverside Car Park. For further travel information, passengers can refer to the official Great Western Railway website.

GWR Operations Director, Richard Rowland, underscored the significance of proactive planning, expressing, “We are pleased to once again be able to support travel to/from the Principality Stadium; however, customers are advised that trains immediately before and after the match will be extremely crowded, and a queuing system will be enforced at the station. We would encourage customers to check journey times and allow sufficient time to embark on trains safely.”

Concurrently, Transport for Wales’ Head of Performance, Adam Terry, also implored customers to meticulously plan their journeys and keep abreast of any updates, “We’ll be providing as much capacity as possible on services in and out of Cardiff before and after the game, but we’d advise all customers to plan their journeys carefully, leave plenty of time to travel and check for the latest updates throughout the day using our website or our award-winning mobile app. Our major events team work tirelessly to ensure everyone gets into Cardiff and home again safely, and we’d like to express our gratitude to our customers in advance for their patience towards our staff and their fellow passengers during another bustling weekend on the rail network.”

By offering these supplementary services, Great Western Railway and Transport for Wales are collaborating to ensure that rugby enthusiasts can travel to and from the match with convenience and ease. The endeavors to provide additional trains and seats for this eagerly-awaited event epitomize their dedication to facilitating a seamless and enjoyable travel experience for all passengers.
