Owen Wilson Lands Lead Role in New Golf Comedy Series on Apple TV+

Hollywood actor Owen Wilson has been selected to assume the leading role in a new comedy series based in the professional golf world, set to premiere on Apple TV+. The as-yet untitled series, ordered for 10 episodes by Apple, is in the hands of writer Jason Keller.

Within this forthcoming series, Wilson will embody the persona of Pryce Cahill, a former professional golfer whose career abruptly ceased two decades ago. His character is depicted as an “over-the-hill” golfer who was prematurely removed from the sport. The plotline tracks Pryce’s termination from his position at a sporting goods store in Indiana, and the breakdown of his marriage. This leads him to place all his aspirations into coaching a troubled 17-year-old golf prodigy.

Keller and Wilson are not only assuming roles in front of the camera but also acting as executive producers for the series. The creative team behind the show also consists of executive producers Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, Rodney Ferrell, Guymon Casady, Lee Eisenberg, Natalie Sandy, and Chris Moynihan. The series will be directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.

This venture into television is the most recent undertaking for Owen Wilson. At present, he is starring in the Marvel-Disney+ series “Loki,” which initiated its second season in late 2023. Additionally, Wilson is contributing his voice to the animated series “Cars on the Road,” reprising his role as Lightning McQueen from the beloved “Cars” Pixar film franchise.

Recognized for his collaborations with esteemed director Wes Anderson, which include an Academy Award nomination for best original screenplay for “The Royal Tennenbaums,” Wilson has enjoyed a prosperous film career. His remarkable roles in movies such as “Zoolander,” “Wedding Crashers,” “Starsky and Hutch,” and “Midnight in Paris” have solidified his reputation as a distinguished actor in Hollywood.

On the other hand, this represents a significant milestone for Jason Keller as his debut foray into television writing. Prior to this, he participated in writing the screenplay for the 2019 film “Ford v. Ferrari” among other projects.

The collaboration between Wilson and Keller has prompted great eagerness among fans and industry aficionados. With a proficient team at the forefront and a promising storyline, the forthcoming comedy series on Apple TV+ is certainly an exciting prospect.
