The New Face of Golf Ireland: Rosemary Tully Takes the Helm

The esteemed position of Golf Ireland President has been filled by Rosemary Tully, a member of Carlow Golf Club, following the 2024 AGM held at Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blanchardstown, in Dublin. Tully has succeeded the outgoing Jim Long (Monkstown, Dooks), making her the second female president of the Governing Body for golf in Ireland. The event also saw Athlone’s Michael Evans stepping into the role of President-Elect, ready to assume the position at the 2025 AGM. Furthermore, Sara O’Sullivan (Malone) and Paul Whelan (Castle) were elected as Nominated Directors, with former Dublin footballer Tomás Quinn also joining the governing body.

Following her appointment, President Tully expressed her gratitude and pride at taking over the prominent position, stating, “I feel truly honoured and very privileged to accept the role of president of Golf Ireland, not only for myself, but also for Carlow Golf Club who are celebrating 125 years.” She specifically thanked her home club for their support throughout her volunteer journey and acknowledged the outgoing president, Jim Long, for his dedicated service. Tully also extended her congratulations to the incoming president-elect, Michael Evans, and expressed her deep appreciation for the unwavering support of her husband, Joe, in achieving this significant milestone in her career.

In addition to the appointments, the meeting included a compelling presentation on sustainability from Golf Ireland’s new Sustainability Manager, Ann Courtney. The event also highlighted the accomplishments of individuals within the golf community, with Mary Farrell, a dedicated member of Edenderry Golf Club, being honoured as the winner of the second Golf Ireland Club Volunteer of the Year award. Farrell, who has dedicated her time to the club post-retirement, shared her excitement about receiving the prestigious recognition and emphasized the value of acknowledging the efforts of volunteers within the sports community.

Overall, the 2024 AGM marked a significant moment for Golf Ireland, with the appointment of Rosemary Tully as the new President and the recognition of outstanding contributions from individuals within the golfing community. As the governing body continues to uphold its commitment to fostering the sport of golf across Ireland, the future looks promising under the leadership of President Tully and the dedicated team of directors and volunteers.
