The women’s tennis team at William & Mary exhibited their impressive performance in the CAA with a decisive 7-0 victory over Hofstra. The match, held at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center, marked the team’s fifth consecutive win, extending their remarkable 18-game winning streak against league opponents.
The tone for the match was set during the doubles play, as the Tribe secured the initial point with a clean sweep. The top two doubles teams, comprising of Yu Chen and Emma Fernald, as well as Hedda Gurholt and Ine Stange, remained undefeated in CAA play. Additionally, Francesca Davis and Yaelle Vaissaud completed the doubles sweep by defeating their opponents on line three.
In the singles matches, the Tribe displayed dominance by winning all six matches in straight sets. Graduate students Yu Chen and Mila Mejic, along with juniors Hedda Gurholt, Ine Stange, Alessandra Anghel, and sophomore Yaelle Vaissaud, secured impressive singles victories over Hofstra.
In her fifth consecutive win, Stange dropped just two games in her victory at No. 4 singles, while Anghel extended her winning streak to six in a row with a dominant performance at No. 5. Mejic, Gurholt, and Chen also remained undefeated in league action with their wins over Hofstra.
This victory solidifies the Tribe’s dominance in the CAA, with Gurholt improving to 19-4 overall and 10-2 in dual-match action. Chen’s commanding performance saw her drop just four total games, while Vaissaud rounded out the sweep with a solid performance on line six.
Looking ahead, the Tribe is set to host Temple on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center, as they continue their homestand.
