On Saturday, March 23, 2024, the Pine-Richland hockey team achieved an extraordinary victory in the Pennsylvania Cup Class 3A finals, surpassing LaSalle College 5-4 in overtime. Josh Lanyard’s hat trick resulted in a tie with just 1:37 remaining, and AJ Verszyla secured the winning goal. This win marks Pine-Richland’s fourth state title, their first since 2019.
In addition to Lanyard’s exceptional performance, Colten Andrighetti also scored, and Cullen Campbell provided three assists for the Rams. The team established an early lead of 3-0 in the second period, showcasing their dominance on the ice. On the opposing side, Alistair St. Hilaire scored a goal and assisted his team, demonstrating LaSalle College’s determination throughout the game.

Hershey emerged victorious in the Class A Pennsylvania Cup championship, scoring four unanswered goals against Chartiers Valley. Carson Hummer, Blake Umberger, Tyler Lucas, and Kyle Kloss all played a part in Hershey’s impressive win, showcasing their skill on the ice.
The excitement extended to the baseball field, with Avonworth securing a 6-5 victory over Sidwell Friends. Hunter Blackson’s outstanding performance saw him triple, walk three times, and score three runs, while Mason Metz and Ryan Hetko each provided two RBIs for the team.
In the world of softball, Avonworth achieved a 3-0 win against Vineland (NJ), with Sydney Savatt and Alivia Lantzy working together to deliver a shutout. Lantzy also made a significant impact with a single, home run, and two RBIs, contributing to her team’s success.
Eastward Forward achieved a 6-4 win against Avonworth, with Julia Resnik leading the charge with two hits, including a home run and three RBIs. Moore Catholic (NY) defeated Jefferson-Morgan 6-3, and West Allegheny impressed with a three-game sweep. Meanwhile, in boys’ volleyball, North Allegheny hosted a tournament, where Central York emerged victorious in the finals.
