The men’s tennis team at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCS) recently honoured their seniors during the final home match against Kennesaw State University. In a moving ceremony, seniors Eric Oncins and John Zakowski, accompanied by their families, were recognised on court one, adding a special touch to the event.
The match concluded with a 6-1 victory for the Kennesaw State University Owls. Despite the outcome, the event was marked by a strong display of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
The doubles competition was intense, with Oncins and Hugo Magnusson securing a win on court one with a score of 6-3. Ultimately, the match on court two culminated in a thrilling victory for Harry Michalowski and Pablo Paternostro, with a score of 7-6(4), securing the doubles point for FGCU at 7-6(4).
Although the Eagles put on an impressive performance during the doubles matches, the singles matches did not play out in their favor. The results were as follows:
1. Raul Garcia (KSUM) def. Hugo Magnusson (FGCU) with scores of 6-1, 6-4
2. Harvey Conway (KSUM) def. Pablo Paternostro (FGCU) with scores of 6-2, 7-6(7-2)
3. Sam Baldwin (KSUM) secured a victory against Mika Bunjes (FGCU) with scores of 7-6(9-7), 2-6, 1-0(11-9)
4. Anthony Weingarten (KSUM) defeated Eric Oncins (FGCU) with scores of 6-1, 6-2
5. Hugo Salmeron (KSUM) won against John Zakowski (FGCU) with scores of 6-2, 6-2
6. Seru Tezuka (KSUM) secured a victory against Ninad Raut (FGCU) with scores of 6-3, 6-4
The doubles matches were marked by fierce competition, resulting in the following outcomes:
1. Eric Oncins/Hugo Magnusson (FGCU) secured a win against Harvey Conway/Raul Garcia (KSUM) with a score of 6-3
2. Harry Michalowski/Pablo Paternostro (FGCU) emerged victorious against Anthony Weingarten/Joel Gibson (KSUM) with a score of 7-6(7-4)
3. Mikolaj Lis/Hugo Salmeron (KSUM) won against John Zakowski/Mika Bunjes (FGCU) with a score of 6-3
