A man from Dorchester, identified as Omar Stephenson, found himself in a precarious situation with the Boston police after he allegedly pursued two victims with a footlong knife at a public park basketball court. The incident transpired at the Roberts Playground, located in front of the TechBoston Academy in Dorchester.
The 37-year-old was promptly taken into custody and has been formally charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon and assault and battery, as detailed in a press release by the Boston police department. According to reports, the altercation occurred on March 30 at around 5:20 p.m., prompting the swift intervention of local law enforcement officers.
The victims, who were engaged in a basketball game, recounted to the police that Stephenson approached them with a request to join in the game. However, the situation quickly escalated as his conduct became increasingly hostile, leading the victims to request that he leave. Instead of complying with their request, Stephenson allegedly put one of the victims in a headlock, and subsequently brandished a knife while pursuing them.
Upon receiving the victims’ description of the perpetrator, the police were able to promptly locate Stephenson, who was reportedly shouting at the basketball court. Subsequently, he was apprehended without further incident, and law enforcement recovered the aforementioned footlong hunting knife, which was found sheathed in his waistband.
The accused is scheduled to appear for arraignment at the Dorchester District Court in the near future.
