The Salisbury Women’s 2nd XI has concluded a highly successful season by securing promotion to the South Central’s Division I South league. With one game remaining, the team has guaranteed their place in the higher league and can approach their final match against Basingstoke on Saturday with confidence.
Presently three points clear at the top of the table, with a substantial 16-point goal difference over second place, the team is well-positioned to maintain their lead, even in the event of a loss in the upcoming game. However, given their outstanding performance throughout the season, a defeat appears unlikely for this formidable squad.
The journey to attaining this promotion was not devoid of challenges. The team encountered early setbacks, suffering losses to Alton and Trojans, which cast doubt on the season ahead. Nevertheless, through strategic adjustments and a renewed focus on team formation, the Salisbury 2s turned their fortunes around and began accumulating victories.
Their unbeaten streak since December has established them as a force to be reckoned with, and their recent form has been nothing short of exceptional. Team Captain, Isla Perkins, emphasized the team’s resolve and hard work, stating, “There was a moment a few games in as we started to settle as a team that we could see we had a real chance of building towards promotion; we doubled down on training and the areas to strengthen in, and went for it”.
In conjunction with the Salisbury Women’s 2nd XI’s triumph, the Salisbury Hockey Club as a whole has cause for celebration, with three of the club’s teams set to ascend in the leagues next season. The men’s first team, the women’s second team, and the women’s fourth XI will all be confronted with new challenges in the leagues above come September.
This accomplishment signifies a significant milestone for the Salisbury Hockey Club and exemplifies the dedication and hard work of all the players and staff involved. As the end of season dinner approaches, the club will have much to celebrate and anticipate in the seasons to come.
