Denison University Tennis Team Triumphs over Wittenberg and Makes History

The Denison University men’s tennis team has achieved an impressive feat with a resounding 9-0 victory over Wittenberg University. This win has elevated the team to a 2-0 record in the North Coast Athletic Conference, firmly establishing their position as a formidable presence in collegiate tennis. Notably, Andy Mackler’s outstanding performance during the match has earned him a place in Denison’s history books as the player with the most career wins in singles and doubles, totaling 138 victories and surpassing the previous record held by Tim Cianciola.

The doubles matches were fiercely contested, with the Denison team displaying remarkable skill and teamwork. Archie Turner and Colin Gramley secured a decisive 8-1 victory over Mark Trinka and Sven Van den Eerenbeemt, while Ethan Green and Kael Shah, as well as Andy Mackler and Kyle Patrick, both claimed victories with a score of 8-1.

In the singles matches, Colin Gramley and Nickawn Namdar continued the momentum by dominating their opponents with impressive 6-0, 6-0 victories. The defining moment for Andy Mackler came in his 6-0, 6-1 win over Kyle Fout at No. 3 singles. The team concluded the match with notable wins from Kael Shah, Nadeem Jones, and Ryan Patrick, further solidifying their position as a force to be reckoned with in collegiate tennis.

Following this victory, the No. 13 Denison men’s tennis team now boasts an 8-3 overall record and a flawless 2-0 record in the NCAC. It is noteworthy that this win marks their 23rd consecutive victory over Wittenberg, spanning back to their triumph in the NCAC Tournament Championship match in 2004.

Andy Mackler’s record-breaking accomplishments undoubtedly serve as a testament to his exceptional skill and unwavering dedication to the sport. With 66 career singles wins, he is in close pursuit of the record held by Cianciola, and his 72 career doubles wins place him in close contention with the record set by Kevin Newman.
