The women’s tennis team of Howard University rebounded from a tough loss the previous day and spoiled George Mason University’s Senior Day with an impressive 4-0 victory in Fairfax, Virginia.
Howard University, currently holding a record of 8-9, established an early advantage in the match by securing victories in two doubles contests. Third-year player Nadia Pegram from Naples, Florida, and freshman Imani Jean from Brooklyn, New York, claimed their fourth consecutive doubles win by defeating George Mason’s Emily Wirt and Jenin Alasadi with a score of 6-0. Following suit, Junior Sifa Butcher from Pembroke Pines, Florida, and rookie Dana Hall from Miami emerged victorious against Mason’s Lauren Splet and Mailys Faur with a score of 6-4.
In the singles competition, Hall, Jean, and Pegram were successful in clinching their respective matches in straight sets. Butcher and her teammate Jordan Grayson from Gaithersburg had also taken the lead in their singles matches, but unfortunately, the matches were declared unfinished.
Looking forward, Howard University is preparing to compete against Coppin State in Baltimore on Monday, April 15. The team is gearing up for what promises to be an exhilarating match.
