The women’s tennis team at Stevens Institute of Technology obtained a significant victory against Misericordia in the MAC Freedom match on Saturday. Senior Polina Odintseva and junior Isabella Dona led the team to victory, each achieving two wins during the match.
As a result of this triumph, Stevens has secured its first MAC Freedom win for this season. The team maintains an impressive track record of not losing a conference match since the 2020-21 season and currently holds an overall record of 5-5 for this year. Additionally, Stevens remains undefeated with a 4-0 all-time record against Misericordia. Conversely, the Cougars experienced a setback, falling to 7-2 with this loss.
The Ducks took an early lead by winning all doubles matches, resulting in a 3-0 advantage. Specifically, Dona and first-year player Julianna Gomez secured a notable 8-2 victory, while first-year Alix Dry and sophomore Stephanie Untermeyer also contributed to the team’s success with an 8-5 win on the third line.
Moving on to the singles matches, the team continued its strong performance with a 4-2 record, including three victories in the third set tiebreaker. Dona, Odintseva, and junior Emma Eguia each achieved victories in three sets, while Gomez emerged triumphant in two sets on the second line.
The team’s next event is a non-conference match against New Paltz, scheduled for Wednesday at 4 p.m. Despite the team’s historical record of being 2-12 all-time against the Hawks, they are preparing to deliver another strong performance.
