Former Tottenham player and current Bayern Munich defender, Eric Dier, has expressed his belief that he should still be a part of the England squad, despite not being called up since December 2022. Dier, who has 49 caps and has played in two World Cups and Euro 2016, feels that he is currently playing the best football of his career.
In a recent interview with The Overlap podcast, the 30-year-old Dier stated, “Since the World Cup, I wouldn’t say that I’ve had any dip in form. I’m playing the best football of my career since (Antonio) Conte came (to manage Tottenham in 2021) and I’ve carried it on since. People think that I’m 37 or something, but I’m 30 years old and am nowhere near the end of my prime and imagine that this will be my prime.”
Despite his age, Dier firmly believes that he still has a lot to contribute to the England national team. With his experience and dedication to the sport, he is confident that he is at the level required to make a significant impact on the team’s performance.
When asked about his chances of being recalled to the England squad, Dier expressed, “I want to be a part of the England set-up and I believe that I should be a part of it, that I’m that level of a player.”
So far, Dier has made 10 appearances in all competitions for Bayern Munich since joining the club in January. He is currently included in the squad for their upcoming Champions League quarter-final first leg against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.
It is clear that Eric Dier is determined to prove himself and showcase his skills on the field. With his impressive track record and unwavering confidence, it will be interesting to see if his performance will lead to a return to the England national team.
As the football community awaits the upcoming matches and squad announcements, Dier’s dedication and passion for the sport serve as a reminder of the level of commitment and perseverance required to succeed in the world of professional football.
