Stony Brook Suffers Defeat to St. John’s in Queens Tennis Match

The tennis team from Stony Brook University suffered a challenging 4-2 defeat against St. John’s during their Wednesday afternoon match. Despite this outcome, the team managed to secure a doubles victory from Kristi Boro and Debby Mastrodima, as well as a singles victory by default from Mastrodima. In addition, Sara Annamaria Medved and Cornelia Bruu-Syversen of the Seawolves earned a default victory in doubles.

In the doubles matchups, Bouzgarrou and Gumerova from St. John’s defeated Palladino and Lobo-Corral from SBU with a score of 6-2. However, Boro and Mastrodima from SBU triumphed over Babikova and Sartz-Lunde from SJU with a score of 7-6 (7-4). Furthermore, Medved and Bruu-Syversen secured another default victory for SBU.

In the singles matches, Bouzgarrou from SJU defeated Palladino from SBU with a score of 6-1, 6-1. Gumerova from SJU faced Lobo-Corral from SBU in an unfinished match. Sartz-Lunde from SJU emerged victorious against Boro from SBU with a score of 6-0, 6-1. Babikova from SJU also secured a win against Bruu-Syversen from SBU with a score of 7-5, 6-1, while Gomez from SJU defeated Medved from SBU with a score of 6-0, 6-0. Mastrodima from SBU obtained a singles victory by default.

Head coach Thiago Dualiby provided his thoughts on the team’s performance, noting, “We played good doubles today.” He highlighted an improvement in on-court positioning and the team’s execution of plays with the right intent. Dualiby also commended Mastrodima and Boro for their strong performance in the tiebreak to secure the doubles point. Despite facing tough competition in the singles matches, Dualiby acknowledged Elena’s solid performance at No. 2.
