The women’s tennis team of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) suffered a defeat at the hands of the Cleveland State Vikings on Saturday, resulting in a 7-0 loss. The Jags, who were already dealing with a shortage of players, were compelled to concede the number six singles match.
The contest began with doubles play, which saw IUPUI coming up short, giving the Vikings a 1-0 advantage. The duo of Chloe Bailey and Elle Kotre succumbed in the number one doubles match with a score of 6-2. Additionally, the Jags had no choice but to forfeit the number three doubles match, further contributing to Cleveland State’s lead in the doubles segment.
As the competition proceeded to the singles matches, Bailey, competing in the number one spot, experienced a 6-4, 6-1 defeat, while Emma Dell, in the number two position, fell with a score of 6-2, 6-0. Kotre, participating in the number three singles match, faced a 6-3, 6-3 loss, and Gabbie Orlando was unable to secure a victory in the number four match, ultimately relinquishing with a score of 6-2, 6-3. Finally, Sofia Castillo completed the lineup in the number five spot but was defeated with scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Looking ahead, the Jaguars are scheduled to compete against Youngstown State on Sunday, 14th April, with the match set to commence at 3:00 PM. This upcoming matchup will provide another opportunity for the IUPUI women’s tennis team to regroup and strive for a better outcome.
