Victorious Senior Day for William & Mary Women’s Tennis Team

The William & Mary women’s tennis team has achieved an impressive winning streak, having secured their 10th victory in their last 11 matches. Their latest triumph occurred on Sunday as they celebrated Senior Day with a resounding 6-1 victory over CAA newcomer Campbell, thus concluding a flawless weekend.

With a commendable record of 14-6, the Tribe once again demonstrated their prowess by claiming the doubles point for the 16th time in 20 matches. They subsequently triumphed in five out of six singles contests in straight sets, improving their CAA play record to 6-1. Noteworthy performances were delivered by graduate students Yu Chen and Mila Mejic, juniors Hedda Gurholt and Ine Stange, as well as freshman Francesca Davis, who all secured singles wins during this impressive victory.

In a pre-match ceremony, W&M honoured its graduating class comprising of Yu Chen, Kensie Cricchio, Mila Mejic, and Julia Monroe.

In the doubles category, Davis and Mejic commenced strongly with a 6-3 win over Tamsin Hart and Mialy Ranaivo at No. 3. To clinch the point, Chen and junior Emma Fernald secured a victory at No. 1 against Lena Karlovcan and Eeva Ristola, achieving a score of 7-5. This marks their 10th win at the top spot this season.

The impressive performances persisted in singles play, with Mejic securing her ninth-straight win at No. 3 by defeating Hart with a score of 6-2, 6-0. She remained undefeated in CAA play at 7-0 and reached an overall record of 15-9. Stange also contributed to the team’s victory by winning her match at No. 5, attaining a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mariana Ossa. Davis then sealed the win for the Tribe by claiming her match at the No. 6 position against Karlovcan with a score of 6-3, 6-4. Gurholt and Chen added to the triumph with wins at the top two positions.

The Tribe now anticipates the conclusion of their regular season with a road trip to Richmond on Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m.
