Suspension of BC Ball Hockey Association due to Alleged Sex Offender and Financial Irregularities

The BC Ball Hockey Association has been suspended following the identification of an alleged sex offender on its board of directors. The president of the national Canadian Ball Hockey Association (CBHA) stated that the presence of a convicted criminal and alleged sex offender within BCBHA’s directorship is incompatible with the safety and values CBHA strives to ensure within the sports community.

In addition to the alleged sex offender, the BC association was also found to be non-compliant with the BC Societies Act, involved in financial irregularities, and plagued with ethical failures. The letter from national association president Tim McKenzie pointed out alleged lack of clarity in financial transactions, absence of receipts for fees paid by leagues, and their exclusion from BCBHA votes and AGMs, indicating a potential failure in financial transparency and equitable treatment within the BC organization.

The Canadian Ball Hockey Association has taken over the management of BC adult and minor ball hockey associations and leagues to ensure that the spring and summer seasons are not impacted. The national association is now conducting an investigation into the allegations, with the goal of rebuilding and reforming the BC organization.

The Vancouver Island league expressed their encouragement over the suspension and were pleased that their concerns have been heard. They have pledged to provide clarity and support to Island athletes as the investigation continues. The Island league’s spring season is set to open tonight with an exhibition game in Nanaimo.

This development is a cause for concern not just for officials and stakeholders, but for the entire sports community. It is imperative that sports organizations operate with the highest level of integrity and are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.

The actions taken by the Canadian Ball Hockey Association to investigate and suspend the BC Ball Hockey Association, both in the adult and minor categories, are essential steps in upholding the values of transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct within the sports community.
