The Departure of Pat Goedde as La Salle High School Basketball Head Coach

The La Salle High School administration made a formal announcement on Wednesday evening regarding the departure of Pat Goedde from his position as head basketball coach.

In accordance with the statement from La Salle athletic director Brian Meyer, the particulars of this decision are being handled as a personnel issue, therefore, comprehensive details will not be disclosed at this time.

It has been affirmed that La Salle does not currently have plans to appoint an interim coach, and will instead immediately initiate the process of searching for a new basketball coach.

A graduate of La Salle from the class of 1991, Goedde had held the position of head coach for the Lancers since April 2017, after being involved in the program for over 30 years in various capacities. He expressed his appreciation for the relationships he formed with both current and former players in the Greater Catholic League South division program.

In his statement on Wednesday night, Goedde expressed gratitude for the players and alumni who have supported him throughout his time as head coach. He also conveyed heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering support he received, acknowledging the profound impact they had on his coaching career.

During the most recent season, La Salle achieved a record of 8-15, with a score of 0-6 in the Greater Catholic League South division.

Following the retirement of longtime La Salle coach Dan Fleming, Goedde was appointed as head coach on April 24, 2017, having previously served as junior varsity basketball coach and varsity assistant at La Salle since 2003, accumulating a total of 26 years of coaching experience before assuming the position of head coach.

It is notable that Goedde previously held the position of La Salle’s point guard during Fleming’s first year at the school in the 1990-91 season. Additionally, he stepped in as the interim head coach during the 2011 state tournament while Fleming was recovering from a heart attack suffered in early March of that year.

La Salle has a rich history in basketball, having secured Division I state titles in 1996 and 2011, with Goedde playing an integral role in the 2011 state tournament as the interim head coach.

In summary, the departure of Pat Goedde as the La Salle High School basketball head coach marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Lancers. As the search for a new coach commences, it is evident that both the school and the basketball program will undergo a period of transition as they move forward.
