Kentucky women’s basketball transfer, Maddie Scherr, has formally committed to joining the TCU women’s basketball team. This noteworthy announcement follows the Horned Frogs’ successful acquisition of LSU’s Hailey Van Lith on the same day.
Scherr, who has an impressive track record of starting 55 games in the last two seasons for the Wildcats, has showcased her prowess on the court by averaging 12.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in her most recent season. Furthermore, in 2022, she sustained high statistics with an average of 11.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assists.
The decision to enlist Scherr onto the TCU team was heavily influenced by head coach Mark Campbell’s personal knowledge of her talent and skills. Campbell had previously collaborated with Scherr during his tenure as an assistant at Oregon in 2020, where she competed in 22 games as a freshman. Additionally, Scherr’s role within the team expanded in 2021, with 28 starts in 31 appearances, contributing to her team’s success in the NCAA Tournament.
The addition of Scherr to the TCU women’s basketball team strategically prevails, particularly following Haley Cavinder’s recent departure from the program. Cavinder, who committed to TCU in November, announced her decision to conclude her collegiate career back at Miami with her sister Hanna. This development created a void within the team that Scherr is positioned to fill.
The prompt recruitment of Scherr and Van Lith illustrates Coach Campbell’s capacity to attract top-tier talent to TCU from the transfer portal. The commitment of such experienced and skilled players reflects positively on the program and augurs well for the Horned Frogs’ forthcoming season.
