US actress Zendaya has traded her athletic clothing for an elegant lace gown at the premiere of her new tennis-themed film, Challengers. The renowned Euphoria star, known for her role as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy-turned-coach in the romantic movie, made a notable fashion statement on the black carpet of the Los Angeles premiere.
Zendaya appeared stunning in a black and baby pink lace and tulle gown with delicate spaghetti straps, departing from her recent tennis-inspired wardrobe. Earlier during the press tour for the film, she was seen in a white halter neck dress embroidered with tennis motifs, which exuded an athletic charm.
The star-studded premiere also featured West Side Story actor Mike Faist, who sported an all-black ensemble, and British actor Josh O’Connor, who donned an oversized grey pin-striped suit with mint green accents.
In Challengers, Zendaya’s character is married to Art, played by Faist, a tennis champion who is set to face off against Patrick, portrayed by O’Connor, his former best friend and Tashi’s ex-boyfriend.
Zendaya expressed her admiration for her co-stars, describing them as incredibly talented, brilliant, and very amicable. She emphasized the strong chemistry between the three of them, highlighting the luxury they had to train together and rehearse, which created a supportive team dynamic.
O’Connor, known for his role as Prince Charles in The Crown, also shared his experience of bonding with his co-stars. He revealed that the initial nervousness on the first day of rehearsals eventually led to a strong bond, as they all felt insecure and shy in similar ways.
He also highlighted the important role of an intimacy coordinator in the film, which was a first for him, emphasizing the significance of such a professional in the industry.
Renowned filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, known for directing films such as Call Me By Your Name, also graced the premiere, sporting a tailored cream jacket and matching necktie. Zendaya expressed her admiration for Guadagnino, citing his deep understanding of the characters and his clear vision for the movie.
The Hollywood star stunned in a bright yellow-green plunge dress with a tennis ball cinched at her waist for the film premiere, showcasing her fashion prowess yet again.
Challengers is set to hit Irish cinemas on April 26th, offering audiences an intimate and compelling story set in the world of tennis.
