A Review of the Last Regular Season Match for Richmond Women’s Tennis

The University of Richmond women’s tennis team concluded their regular season with a challenging match against William & Mary on Saturday afternoon. Elizabeth Novak was able to secure the only point for the Spiders in a 6-1 defeat. The match took place at the Westhampton Tennis Courts, with the Spiders finishing the regular season with an 8-10 record, while William & Mary’s record improved to 15-5. Additionally, seniors Claire Le Du, Andrea Campodonico, Carly Cohen, Leonor Oliveira, and Polina Shitikova were honored after the match for their final home game.

During the match, Yu Chen and Emma Fernald from William & Mary defeated Andrea Campodonico and Claire Le Du from Richmond in the doubles competition with a score of 6-3. Alessandra Anghel and Ine Stange from William & Mary were leading Lara Bakhaya and Polina Shitikova from Richmond 5-4 in the doubles competition before the match remained unfinished. Francesca Davis and Mila Mejic from William & Mary also secured a win against Elizabeth Novak and Lainey O’Neil from Richmond with a score of 6-1.

In the singles competition, Hedda Gurholt, Yu Chen, Mila Mejic, and Ina Stange from William & Mary all secured wins against their Richmond opponents. Elizabeth Novak was the only victory for Richmond, defeating Emma Fernald from William & Mary with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 1(10)-0(7). Francesca Davis from William & Mary also secured a win against Polina Shitikova from Richmond.

The match concluded with the following order of finish: singles – 3, 2, 4, 1, 6, 5, and doubles – 3, 1. With this result, Richmond closes the regular season with an 8-10 record, while William & Mary stands at 15-5.

Next, the Spiders will await their seeding in the Atlantic 10 Championship, scheduled to take place from April 24-27 in Orlando, Florida at the USTA National Campus.
