A planning proposal for the development of a golf driving range and junior academy centre in Wirswall near Whitchurch is poised to be approved.
The mastermind behind the 16-bay driving range and junior golf centre is PGA professional Rob Ashbrook, and it will be situated on an agricultural plot of land off Bradley Green Lane. This project also entails the construction of a reception/office and driving range building, car park, site access, and the installation of associated flood lighting.
The decision-making process for this application falls under the jurisdiction of Cheshire East Council’s strategic planning board due to the location’s alignment with the Wrenbury ward. A report from the council’s planning officer highlights the proposal’s compliance with policies regarding essential development for outdoor recreation, public infrastructure, and rural businesses.
The report also emphasises the potential economic benefits of the project, such as job creation and the positive impact on the rural economy. Additionally, it underscores the facility’s potential to promote health and well-being within the community.
Despite receiving support from 63 individuals who laud it for its positive impact on the local youth, enhancement of the sports landscape, and contribution to the rural economy through job creation, the proposal faces opposition from nineteen objectors. The concerns raised by the dissenting voices revolve around issues of highway safety, drainage, landscape and ecological impact, as well as the fear of light pollution.
The approval or rejection of the proposal will be deliberated at the upcoming meeting of the council’s strategic planning board, scheduled to take place at Macclesfield Town Hall on Wednesday, April 24, at 10 am.
In conclusion, the development of the golf driving range and junior academy centre is on the verge of coming to fruition, with the potential to bring about positive changes in the local community. Regardless of the challenges and objections faced, the project stands as a beacon of opportunity for both the youth and the rural economy in Cheshire.
