In a heartwarming turn of events, three exceptional athletes from Mason City High School have formally announced their commitment to join Northern Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Women’s Basketball.
Reggie Spotts, Grace Berding, and Kelsey McDonough, all pivotal players for the Riverhawks Girls Basketball team, enthusiastically signed their letters of intent in front of their peers and coaches at Mason City High School on Wednesday. They will now be taking their talents to the Trojans territory to play for NIACC Women’s Basketball, a decision that allows them to remain close to home.
Despite receiving offers from various colleges, McDonough spoke highly of the Trojans’ style of play, expressing her admiration for their offensive strategy and three-point shooting capabilities. Berding, a long-time friend of both McDonough and Spotts, also conveyed her enthusiasm for continuing to play alongside her companions.
NIACC Women’s Basketball is particularly noteworthy for the track record of its players moving on to Division I and Division II teams after their time with the Trojans. The success of former NIACC players, such as Maddi Hillman from St. Ansgar, who went on to play for South Dakota, has inspired Spotts to pursue similar achievements.
Spotts, a highly anticipated recruit ranking in the Top 30 in Iowa, is determined to reach the Division I level. Her impressive statistics with the Riverhawks, leading in points, rebounds, and assists, reflect her determination and prowess on the basketball court.
Brad Vaught, the head coach of the NIACC Women’s Basketball team, expressed his pleasure in recruiting all three Riverhawks, emphasizing their compatibility with the team’s playing style. He highlighted the Trojans’ aggressive and high-pressure approach on the court, which aligns well with the skill set of the incoming players.
Aside from the three athletes from Mason City High School, other local players, such as Keeley Steele from Stewartville and Allison Ferrie from Cresco, have also made significant contributions to the NIACC team. Kiru Othow from John Marshall is another recent addition to the Trojans, having signed her letter of intent in March.
The commitment of these talented young women to NIACC Women’s Basketball marks a significant moment not only for the players themselves but also for the local community. It serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication they have put into their sport, and the promising future that lies ahead for them in their collegiate basketball careers.
As they prepare to embark on this new chapter, the support and well-wishes from their families, friends, and fans will undoubtedly continue to fuel their passion for the game. The community eagerly awaits the exciting journey these athletes will undertake and the pride they will bring to NIACC Women’s Basketball.
