Following the departure of Chucky Hepburn, the Wisconsin men’s basketball team has secured a replacement in the form of Central Arkansas guard Camren Hunter. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound athlete has formally announced his commitment to UW, signifying a promising new chapter for the team. Despite sitting out the previous season due to a foot injury, Hunter’s impressive track record and skills position him as a valuable addition to the team.
During his initial two seasons at Central Arkansas, Hunter earned accolades as an all-Atlantic Sun Conference player. As a freshman, he exhibited his prowess by averaging 14.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. Despite a 25.0% three-point shooting percentage, Hunter boasted an exceptional 81.5% accuracy from the free-throw line. Not only did he start all 30 games, but he also claimed the league’s freshman of the year title and showcased exceptional teamwork with 103 assists.
In his sophomore year, Hunter continued to excel with a 32.3% three-point shooting percentage and an increased scoring average of 16.7 points per game. His well-rounded performance on the court, including 4.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game, solidified his status as a standout player. Additionally, his improvement was evident in his free-throw shooting, where he achieved an impressive 79.6% accuracy.
Before deciding to transfer to Wisconsin, Hunter explored various options, including visits to UW and Saint Louis. His commitment to the team came after the pursuit of several potential targets, notably point guard Tyrese Hunter, who ultimately chose Memphis.
