Four TCU Players Qualify for NCAA Tennis Championships

The TCU men’s tennis team has qualified four players for the NCAA Individual Championships, marking a significant achievement for the team. Jake Fearnley and Jack Pinnington will compete in the singles event, while Pedro Vives and Sebastian Gorzny will represent the team in doubles. The championships will be held from May 20-25 at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Gorzny and Vives earned their places in the championships as the highest-ranked pair in the Big 12. Fearnley is seeded eighth in the singles competition, with Pinnington not far behind, as he will be seeded 9-16. This is a notable accomplishment for Fearnley, who becomes a four-time All-American and will participate in the singles championships for the second time.

Gorzny and Vives have excelled at the top of TCU’s doubles lineup, boasting an impressive 8-2 record in duals and an overall record of 17-5. Their talent was evident when they reached the semifinals at the ITA National Fall Championships last November. This automatic qualification will mark their first appearance in the doubles championships.

Fearnley, a fifth-year senior, has had a strong season, with an 11-2 record and victories against the nation’s highest-ranked players. His remarkable comeback from a month-long injury absence during the Big 12 Championships, where he secured four wins against ranked players, demonstrates his talent and resilience. Pinnington, on the other hand, has had an outstanding sophomore campaign, with a robust 15-4 dual singles record and a notable 13-4 record against ranked opponents. His performance earned him a spot on the ITA Indoor National Championships All-Tournament team at No. 2 singles.

In addition to the individual championships, TCU was awarded the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament, setting the stage for an exciting championship quest. The team will begin their journey with a round of 64 match against UC Irvine at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The Fort Worth Regional will also feature teams from Arkansas and Cornell, with the winners of the opening round duals facing off for a spot in the Super Regionals.

This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to the talent and hard work of the TCU men’s tennis team. As they prepare for the NCAA Individual Championships, the Horned Frogs are positioned to make their mark on the prestigious event, and their fans will undoubtedly support them every step of the way.
