A Successful Golf Day Fundraiser for The John Hartson Foundation

The John Hartson Golf Day, launched in 2019, has been making a significant impact by raising an impressive £100,000 for The John Hartson Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to raising awareness of testicular cancer and providing support to those affected by the disease. This successful event, spearheaded by Jim Murphy, contract manager at Walker Group, along with the support of friends and family, has proven to be a resounding success each year.

This year’s fundraiser, held at the end of April, managed to raise an impressive £11,000, surpassing the £100,000 mark. The event attracted over 100 golfers, including former Celtic players John Hartson and Bobby Petta, as well as ex-Rangers and Scotland midfielder, Ian Durrant. The day offered an array of activities, from an auction, raffle prizes, to a hole-in-one competition with the prize of a £30,000 car, sponsored by Advance Construction.

The John Hartson Foundation, established by former footballer John Hartson in 2013, aims to raise awareness of early symptoms of testicular cancer, provide support to those affected by the disease, and assist in the provision of medical facilities. Jim Murphy, speaking about his involvement in the charity golf day, expressed his admiration for the foundation’s work and the importance of raising awareness of testicular cancer in the male-dominated construction industry. He also expressed his gratitude for the generous donations from local companies and individuals, as well as the participation of teams in making the event a resounding success.

John Hartson, the founder of the charity, extended his appreciation for the support received, emphasizing the kindness and dedication of individuals like Jim Murphy, friends, and family in organizing successful fundraising events for The John Hartson Foundation. He also highlighted the regular events in the charity’s calendar, such as the golf day at Turnberry, the charity ball in August, and a Sportsman lunch in November, with the addition of the Harburn Golf Day as a permanent fixture in their fundraising initiatives.

The success of The John Hartson Golf Day is a testament to the generosity and support of the community, with all proceeds contributing towards the invaluable efforts of The John Hartson Foundation. It is heartening to witness the collective effort in raising awareness and supporting those affected by testicular cancer, and it serves as a reminder of the power of coming together for a meaningful cause.
