Trey Edmonds to Join the Minnesota Golden Gophers for Final College Basketball Season

The University of Texas at San Antonio’s starting forward, Trey Edmonds, has announced his decision to transfer to the Minnesota Golden Gophers for his final season of college basketball. At 6 feet 10 inches and 255 pounds, Edmonds started in 32 games for the Roadrunners last season. His commitment to Minnesota comes after entering the transfer portal.

Head coach Ben Johnson expressed his enthusiasm about Edmonds joining the program, praising him as a first-class young man from a great family with the potential for impactful plays both offensively and defensively. Johnson also highlighted Edmonds’ passion for development and winning, showcasing his readiness to be part of a successful program.

During the previous season, Edmonds delivered an impressive performance, scoring 12 points on 5-11 shooting in 19 minutes during a game against the Golden Gophers. His averages for the season were equally commendable, with career-best numbers of 7.0 points and 5.8 rebounds in 22 minutes per game. Choosing Minnesota over Mississippi and Cincinnati, it was reported that Edmonds made the decision after an official visit over the weekend, as per the Star Tribune.

With one season of eligibility remaining, Edmonds has already showcased his talents during his time at Utah Tech, where he appeared in 53 games before joining UTSA. The Minnesota Golden Gophers are set to benefit greatly from his experience and skills on the court.

It is noteworthy that Edmonds’ decision to join the Gophers comes amidst a trend of portal signings, as he will be the fifth player to sign with the team this spring. His eagerness to contribute to the team’s success was evident when he expressed his positive experience while visiting Minnesota. Edmonds told the Star Tribune, “It was a great time in Minnesota. I really loved it there.”

Trey Edmonds’ move to join the Minnesota Golden Gophers is an exciting development both for the player and the team. His capabilities and potential for growth on the court make him a valuable addition to the Golden Gophers as they prepare for the upcoming basketball season.
