Victory at Order of Merit Championship boosts Camero and Morton in World Amateur Golf Rankings

The recent Order of Merit Championship of the Emirates Golf Federation witnessed the emergence of Dominic Morton and Jamie Camero as the top winners in the Men’s and Ladies Division, respectively. This victory not only earned them recognition at the event but also a significant amount of World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, paving the way for their further success in the future.

Morton, who is poised to commence a golf scholarship at Odessa University in Texas, displayed exceptional skills in the final round of the 54-hole WAGR event. Despite trailing leader Viktor Kofod-Olsen by three shots at the beginning of the round, Morton managed to draw level with an impressive closing 72 at Al Zorah Golf Club. His stellar performance led to a play-off, where he sealed his first WAGR title by making a birdie at the first extra hole.

Expressing his satisfaction with the victory, Morton stated, “I was pleased with my game – I was confident with my golf this week. I have practised very hard over the last few weeks, and this is my first EGF WAGR tournament win. I am getting ready to go to Odessa University, Texas, on a golf scholarship in August – so it is great to cap this season off with a win.”

Similarly, the Ladies Division witnessed a closely contested battle, with Jamie Camero ultimately clinching the title after a play-off. In a tight competition, the 18-year-old emerged victorious over UAE National Team player Intissar Rich, with both players tied on 223 after 54 holes. Camero’s composed performance under pressure secured her the win on the second play-off hole in Ajman.

Reflecting on her success, Camero commented, “I hit a lot of good shots, but my bad shots were not very good. I have a biology A-level exam tomorrow and it is important for me to do well for my personal pride. It is tough to fit in golf tournaments, practice and exams as well as revision. I am pleased with the win.”

The triumph of Morton and Camero in the Order of Merit Championship not only showcased their exceptional talent but also earned them valuable WAGR points, further solidifying their positions in the world of amateur golf. It is clear that their dedication and hard work have paid off, and their future endeavours in the sport are certainly promising. As they continue to pursue their golfing aspirations, their recent victories have undoubtedly set the stage for even greater achievements on the global amateur golfing scene.
