The Hamilton girls’ tennis team achieved a historic milestone by securing their inaugural girls regional championship, amassing 24 points and fending off Otsego and other competitors in the Division 3 regional tournament. Coach Steve Lubbers commended the team’s diligent effort, stating, “We do not possess a standout player, but rather a completely well-rounded team. It is significant for our program to realize that this is attainable. Success begets success.” The Hawkeyes displayed dominance in the doubles flights, with Joelle Boeskool and Haylie Peterman, Danielle Wedeven and Drew VanHouten, Sophia Blauwkmap and Abigail Atwood, and Lydia Lucas and Emmaline Kapenga securing titles in their respective categories.
Furthermore, Hamilton achieved runner-up finishes in the No. 3 and No. 4 singles through Natalie Grunst and MacKenzie Eding. The team will progress to compete in the Division 3 state finals on May 31-June 1 in Kalamazoo, with aspirations of sustaining their momentum.
