A martial arts instructor in Bradenton, Brennon Cooper Brown, is facing three felony counts of lewd or lascivious battery on a minor, as per an arrest warrant. The 24-year-old instructor allegedly sexually abused a 14-year-old student he met at the Ancient Ways Martial Arts Academy, located at 4774 Cortez Road.
Investigators state that Brown and the girl communicated via social media and began spending time together outside of the martial arts school. The abuse is said to have taken place between February and May 2023.
Boon Brown, the owner of Ancient Ways and Brennon Brown’s father, was quoted in the Bradenton Herald as dismissing the charges against his son. He expressed confidence that Brennon would be “fully exonerated” in court. Notably, he stated that the alleged incidents did not occur at the academy and that Brennon is no longer employed there.
Although Brennon Brown is no longer mentioned on the studio’s current website, a previous version praised his extensive martial arts training since the age of three and his popularity as an instructor among numerous students. Ancient Ways Martial Arts Academy teaches around 300 students of all ages, from preschool to adult classes.
The sexual abuse case came to light in July when the girl’s father filed a complaint, prompting an investigation by detectives. Brennon Brown was subsequently arrested on May 6 and charged with three counts of lewd or lascivious battery against a minor. Court documents reveal that he was released from the Manatee County Jail on the following day after posting bond totalling £22,500.
While everyone accused of a crime is considered innocent until proven guilty, the seriousness of the allegations and the involvement of a minor make this case particularly concerning. It’s essential for law enforcement and the justice system to thoroughly investigate and ensure that justice is served.
It’s also a reminder of the importance of vigilance and proper supervision, especially when it comes to the welfare and safety of young individuals. Martial arts studios and similar environments where children and teenagers congregate should have stringent policies and procedures in place to safeguard students from any form of harm or exploitation.
As this case unfolds, the focus remains on the well-being of the alleged victim and on the legal process ensuring a fair and thorough examination of the facts. We hope for a just resolution that upholds the law and protects the rights and safety of all involved parties.
