Tiger Woods Shows Confidence Despite Slow Start at US PGA Championship

Renowned golfer Tiger Woods recently expressed his thoughts on his performance during the inaugural round of the US PGA Championship, conveying optimism for the remainder of the tournament. Despite concluding the round at one-over 72, the 15-time Major champion displayed positivity regarding his play, affirming that he is “getting stronger for sure.”

Acknowledging his struggles in the latter part of the round, particularly on the 8th and 9th holes, Woods remains resolute in his focus on the extensive journey ahead in the tournament, recognizing that there is ample golf left to be played.

Woods’ most recent subpar performance in the opening round of a tournament dates back to the Genesis Invitational in February 2023, marking a significant period since his last robust start. Nevertheless, he attributed his initial challenges to the limited number of competitive rounds he has participated in recent months.

Throughout the initial round, Woods competed alongside Keegan Bradley and Adam Scott, with the trio collectively hitting the fairway together only at the 15th hole. Bradley, the 2011 US PGA champion, achieved a commendable score of 69, while Scott carded a round of 72, securing 17 pars and one bogey.

In an unexpected turn of events, Xander Schauffele delivered a remarkable performance on the opening day, shooting a record-breaking nine-under-par 62. Despite this impressive feat, Schauffele remains focused on the tournament’s continuation, acknowledging the three remaining rounds of golf.

“It was a great start but we still have three rounds to play. We got put on the clock actually as we made the turn,” Schauffele commented. “I kinda got in a rhythm and had nobody ahead of us and then just got the ball rolling.”

As the tournament progresses, Woods and the remaining participants will continue their pursuit of the Wanamaker Trophy, with a substantial amount of golf still to be played. Despite a slow start, Woods’ unwavering confidence and determination serve as a testament to his aspirations of leaving a lasting impression in the US PGA Championship.
