Two-Time Major Winner Withdraws from US PGA Championship

The Professional Golfers’ Association of America has officially announced the withdrawal of two-time major champion, John Daly, from the US PGA Championship at Valhalla. The 58-year-old golfer made the decision to withdraw prior to the second round due to a thumb injury, following a disappointing score of 11-over 82 in the first round.

Daly, also known as ‘The Wild Thing’, was granted eligibility to participate in the tournament as a former PGA champion, having secured victory at Crooked Stick in 1991. He also notably claimed the Open Championship at St Andrews in 1995 after defeating Costantino Rocca in a playoff.

The announcement of Daly’s withdrawal came shortly after the arrest of World No.1, Scottie Scheffler, at the entrance of the golf club. The 27-year-old was detained due to a misunderstanding of the traffic situation following a fatal collision earlier that day. Shocking images depicted Scheffler being taken into custody, and a mugshot of him was later released by the Louisville Department of Corrections.

Scheffler, who was processed and released in the early hours of the morning, was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals. Despite the incident, he managed to return to Vallhalla Golf Club just in time for his second round tee time and reassured reporters that it was a ‘big misunderstanding’ that has given him a new perspective on life.

The World No.1 is aiming for a second consecutive major win this week, but is scheduled to appear in court next Tuesday regarding the charges. It has been reported that Scheffler suffered abrasions to his left wrist and knee, which required treatment at the hospital after his arrest.

The incidents involving Daly and Scheffler have certainly garnered attention at the US PGA Championship, and it will be intriguing to observe how the tournament unfolds in the coming days. Stay tuned for the latest updates on this developing story.
