Following the conclusion of Chelsea’s season, which saw their securing of a sixth-place finish and European football for the next season, lingering doubts persist regarding Pochettino’s future at the club. Ferdinand has divulged that there are rumours afoot suggesting that the club’s governing body may be exploring alternative options for the managerial position.
Pochettino, who recently concluded a challenging season with five straight victories in the Premier League, has been subject to much conjecture regarding his tenure at the London club. Despite a promising end to the season for Chelsea, uncertainties loom over Pochettino’s position as manager. Rumours have surfaced indicating that a board meeting is imminent to deliberate on whether Pochettino will continue as Chelsea’s manager.
Following Pochettino’s efforts to conclude the season on a positive note, including a 2-1 triumph over Bournemouth, the future remains uncertain. In a recent statement, Pochettino refrained from providing any assurances about his continuation as manager, even following a ‘very pleasant dinner’ with chairman Todd Boehly. The Argentine coach’s current contract only extends for one more year, further fuelling speculation about his future at Chelsea.
Rio Ferdinand voiced apprehensions about Pochettino’s future at Chelsea on his FIVE YouTube channel, expressing, ‘I foresee a managerial carousel. And from the information I’ve received concerning Pochettino, I am uncertain about his prospects at Chelsea. The murmurings I’ve heard, I’m uncertain if it will end well there.’
When questioned about the support from fans, Ferdinand expressed doubt, stating, ‘But I don’t believe it’s within their control. It’s the governing body, and I think there could be a deliberation among those individuals. I don’t believe he’ll remain, if I were a betting man.’
Pochettino himself commented on the situation, stating, ‘I am not sure if that will transpire or not. I have no knowledge of this. What I can inform you is that Todd invited me for a dinner on Friday night, and it was a very pleasant evening. However, I am unaware of the rumours surrounding the review. My staff will be departing for their holidays tomorrow. I will be staying in London for a few more days. My phone will be reachable.’
In a separate interview with Sky Sports, Pochettino was asked about his future and responded, ‘That is a question for the owners and the sporting directors.’
The uncertainty surrounding Pochettino’s future at Chelsea persists, with speculations and dialogues occurring both on and off the field. As the club prepares for the forthcoming season, the decision regarding the managerial position remains a subject of intrigue and discussion among football enthusiasts and pundits.
