Bonnyville’s own AJ and Ali Macaulay are emerging as notable figures in collegiate hockey as they prepare for the forthcoming season. The twins are presently back home for the summer, taking time to unwind and equip themselves for the upcoming challenges on the ice.
AJ, a 22-year-old defenceman, has opted for a change by transferring from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks to Bemidji State in Minnesota. This decision follows a successful two-year tenure with the NCAA team. Despite the uncertainties associated with entering the transfer portal, AJ’s determination and the guidance of his mentors have secured him a position that aligns with his athletic and academic aspirations.
In the meantime, Ali has also undergone a transition of her own. After competing for Olds College in the ACAC, she has migrated to MacEwan Griffins to participate in the U-Sports league. As a member of the leadership cadre, Ali aspires to contribute to the team’s achievements and remains hopeful about the forthcoming season.
The twins are facing fresh opportunities and trials as they venture into a pivotal phase in their collegiate careers. In spite of the pressure, both are resolutely focused on dedicating themselves during the summer in order to ensure a prosperous season ahead.
The advancement of women’s hockey serves as a significant source of motivation for Ali. She is heartened by the progress of the PWHL and the increasing prospects for female players in minor hockey.
Their commitment to the sport is truly praiseworthy, and both eagerly anticipate making substantial contributions to their respective teams in the upcoming season. As they navigate the constantly evolving terrain of collegiate hockey, it is evident that the Macaulay twins are poised to make a lasting impression on the ice.
This summer affords them a well-deserved opportunity to relax and savour their youth before plunging back into the demands of the hockey season.
