Key contributions from Cole Caufield, who registered two goals and two assists, as well as goals and assists from Matt Boldy and Brady Tkachuk, played a pivotal role in securing Team USA’s fourth consecutive win. Caufield and Boldy further bolstered the lead in the second period, before Latvia staged a comeback with two quick goals to narrow the deficit to 4-3. However, Team USA maintained their composure and ultimately sealed the victory with two additional goals, including an empty net goal by Joel Farabee in the final minute.
With a preliminary round record of 5-0-1-1, Team USA has clinched their berth in the quarterfinals. They are poised to square off against Czechia on Thursday (May 23) in Prague, with the game set to be broadcast live on NHL Network.
The impressive showing against Latvia, which saw Team USA outshoot their opponents 43-30, underscores the team’s strong position heading into the next phase of the championship. Notably, Matt Boldy was named U.S. Player of the Game, and Team USA has yet to concede a power play goal throughout the tournament.
