Courtney Lawes of the Northampton Saints has been honoured with the esteemed Pat Marshall Memorial Award by the Rugby Union Writers’ Club, in recognition of his outstanding contributions as a rugby personality during the 2023/24 season. The 35-year-old, celebrated for his illustrious career comprising of 281 appearances for the Saints and 105 Test caps for England, was presented with the award at the iconic Oval Cricket Ground. He now joins the ranks of legendary Pat Lam as the second Saints player to be bestowed with this accolade, following Lam’s receipt of the prize in 2000.
Throughout the season, Lawes has consistently showcased exceptional skill, earning him numerous accolades including the Gallagher Player of the Month for December, cinch Player of the Month for January, and a nomination for the Investec Player of the Year. Additionally, he was recently named in the Premiership Rugby Team of the Season. With an impressive 32% of the vote, Lawes emerged as the clear winner of the Pat Marshall Award, surpassing fellow nominees Wayne Barnes, Andy Farrell, Siya Kolisi, and Jacques Nienaber.
