Shropshire’s very own Isla McDonald-O’Brien has been selected to represent England at the Boys & Girls German International Amateur Championship. The 17-year-old golfer from Shrewsbury Golf Club is one of the 11 players chosen for this prestigious championship, which will be held at Golf Club Hardenberg from May 30 to June 1.
The tournament will consist of a demanding 54-hole stroke play format over three days. Becca Hembrough, the women’s performance manager at England Golf, has expressed her anticipation for the upcoming competition, stating, “We’re very much looking forward to our youngsters testing themselves against the best amateurs in Europe at one of the premier individual championships they will play in during the year.”
Isla McDonald-O’Brien has been making significant progress in her golfing career. Last year, she reached the semi-finals of The R&A Girls’ Amateur Championship and emerged victorious at the Fairhaven Trophy. Additionally, she played an integral role in England’s success at The R&A Women’s & Men’s Home Internationals in August. Most recently, she contributed to the England team’s commendable second-place finish at the European Nations Championship.
