We are delighted to officially announce the acquisition of midfielder Johnny Goddard to our team, subsequent to the completion of his contract with Slough Town. This represents the inaugural signing of the summer for our manager, Ross Jenkins.
Throughout the previous season, the 31-year-old exhibited a remarkable performance, accruing 16 goals in the National League whilst operating as a midfielder. His exceptional contributions resulted in him earning an England C cap for the first time since 2016, affording him the opportunity to play alongside our club captain, Jack Payne, and vice-captain, Nathan Ashmore.
Johnny’s professional journey commenced at Reading, progressing through their youth system before formalizing his initial professional contract in 2011. Following his release a year later, he spent a season with Hayes & Yeading United. Subsequently, he transitioned to National League club Woking in September 2013 after a successful trial period. Notably, Johnny garnered adoration at Woking, accumulating 25 goals in 116 league appearances whilst playing alongside our newly appointed assistant manager, Mark Ricketts.
His impressive performances at Woking facilitated a transfer to EFL side Swindon Town, contending in 42 League One appearances, and subsequently, 23 League Two appearances divided between Swindon Town and Stevenage. In due course, he was loaned to Bromley at the commencement of the 2018/19 season and consequently joined Aldershot Town on a six-month contract in January 2019. Johnny returned to Woking in August 2020 for the 2020/21 season. Most recently, the attacking midfielder had stints at St Albans in 2021 before joining Slough Town, accumulating 86 appearances across two seasons.
Johnny, we are genuinely thrilled to extend a warm welcome to Meadow Park! Your inclusion in the team presents an exciting prospect, and we eagerly anticipate witnessing your performance.
