Alex Scott Takes Home Top Award at the Women’s Football Awards

Former England footballer and BBC presenter Alex Scott has been awarded the title of Broadcaster of the Year at the prestigious Women’s Football Awards. The event, which took place on Thursday night, also honoured Manchester United’s Mary Earps, Georgia Stanway, and Maya Le Tissier.

The second annual SHEIN Women’s Football Awards, hosted by Chelsea and England legend Eni Aluko and Sky Sports presenter Jamie Carragher in Mayfair, saw 39-year-old Scott clinch the coveted accolade in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the women’s football broadcast sector. The award was determined via public vote.

In addition to Scott’s win, Manchester City’s Bunny Shaw was named Player of the Year for her exceptional performance, scoring 21 goals in 18 matches for the Women’s Super League runners-up. The event also featured an emotional moment as retiring Manchester City player Steph Houghton received the Inspirational Role Model Award, voted for by her peers and presented by Scotland and Real Madrid forward Caroline Weir.

Despite their absence at the event due to a crucial Euro 2025 qualifier against France, England’s Lionesses made their mark. Manchester United’s Mary Earps was named Women’s World Cup hero, while fellow Lionesses Georgia Stanway and Maya Le Tissier were also honoured. Stanway, who plays for Bayern Munich, was crowned International Football Player of the Year, and United defender Le Tissier was named the Young Footballer of the Year, following her call-up to the senior squad.

The event also saw Manchester United win the Best Fan Engagement award, and WSL champions Chelsea being named the Football Club of the Year. Additionally, Kerry Davis, the first black woman to represent England, was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award, a poignant moment in the evening. Davis, a trailblazer in the sport, represented Croydon, Liverpool, and Napoli and earned 82 England caps between 1982 and 1998.

The Women’s Football Awards brought together the biggest names in the sport, including Alex Scott, Bunny Shaw, Steph Houghton, and Kerry Davis, to acknowledge and celebrate their significant contributions to women’s football.
