Fresh off his first PGA Tour title win, Bob MacIntyre has elected to withdraw from this week’s $20 million Memorial Tournament in order to celebrate back home in Oban.
The 27-year-old golfer indicated his eagerness to “get on the sesh” following his victory, and he is indeed following through with his plans by choosing to skip the Memorial Tournament hosted by Jack Nicklaus.
MacIntyre’s recent triumph at the RBC Canadian Open, where he emerged victorious over Ben Griffin by one shot, not only established him as the sixth Scottish winner on the modern PGA Tour but also propelled him to 39th place in the Official World Golf Rankings. This accomplishment also secured his place in the Memorial Tournament, featuring nine of the top 10 players in the world.
Despite the prestige of the event and the potential for a $4 million prize for the winner, MacIntyre has opted to return to Scotland and celebrate his victory with his girlfriend, family, and friends.
The decision to withdraw from the Memorial Tournament was verified by the PGA Tour Communications team, and MacIntyre is now looking forward to a few days at home before preparing for the upcoming US Open at Pinehurst in North Carolina.
In his absence, Davis Thompson will be taking MacIntyre’s place in the Memorial Tournament, and it is fair to say that Davis owes Bob a drink!
Bob MacIntyre’s decision to forego the $20 million PGA Tour event in order to celebrate his landmark victory exemplifies his commitment to enjoying the rewards of his hard work and prioritizing the opportunity to revel in his success with loved ones.
