Community Integrated Care, a valued social care partner of Rugby League, is pleased to announce the launch of an innovative ‘Easy Read Guide For The Challenge Cup Finals’, aimed at enhancing the accessibility of the event to a broader audience. This guide, tailored for both the Men’s and Women’s finals scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium this Saturday (8 June), presents clear and succinct information suitable for all readers.
What sets this guide apart is its creation in partnership with fans with learning disabilities who receive care and support from Community Integrated Care’s ‘Support Squad’. By drawing upon their firsthand experiences and passion for Rugby League, the group has developed a resource that offers inclusive and easily comprehensible information for individuals new to the game.
Lewis Webster, Sports Inclusion Communications Manager at Community Integrated Care, expressed sincere appreciation to the Rugby Football League (RFL) for their support in recognizing the value of this initiative. He underscored the guide’s role in enhancing the accessibility of Rugby League and the finals, ensuring a pleasurable experience for all individuals.
For individuals like Matt Price, involvement in the Support Squad has provided an opportunity to contribute to the promotion of inclusivity within organizations and sports. The guide not only provides insight into the historic cup competition, but also fosters excitement and deeper understanding for all readers, encouraging more individuals with learning disabilities to explore and appreciate the sport.
Ben Abberstein, RFL Senior EDI Partner, also conveyed his delight in the launch of the Easy Read Guide to the Challenge Cup Finals, emphasizing its contribution to broadening the accessibility of Rugby League’s flagship event to a wider audience.
The triple-header of the Rugby League cup finals at Wembley Stadium on 8 June will showcase the Women’s Betfred Challenge Cup Final between Leeds Rhinos and St Helens, the Men’s Final between Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors, and the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final between Sheffield Eagles and Wakefield Trinity. Tickets for the event can be purchased online, with adult tickets starting at only £20 and under 16s tickets at £10, as well as family packages.
This initiative not only enhances the inclusivity of the event, but also underscores the significance of creating accessible resources for major sporting events. It sets a commendable example for other organizations, demonstrating that through collaboration and dedication, it is feasible to produce engaging and inclusive content for individuals of all abilities.
