Caleb Surratt, the youngest player in LIV Golf, has made a remarkable entrance into the 2024 season. At the LIV Golf Houston event, Surratt shot a spectacular bogey-free 7-under 65, placing him in a three-way tie for the lead with Martin Kaymer and Adrian Meronk of Cleeks GC.
Surratt, aged only 20, has faced significant pressure and attention since joining LIV Golf as a rookie. Nonetheless, he has demonstrated resilience and determination, with his on-course performance reflecting these qualities. “Obviously, I have the mindset that the job is not finished by any means, but I’m really happy to be out here playing free for probably the first time this season,” said Surratt.
In the team competition, Cleeks GC, led by Kaymer, has secured a substantial three-shot lead over Torque GC with an impressive cumulative score of 17 under. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the Cleeks, who are striving for their first trophy following their best-ever result of tying for second in the recent LIV Golf event in Singapore.
The individual leaders, Surratt, Kaymer, and Meronk, are one shot ahead of seasoned players such as Kevin Na and Carlos Ortiz, with Joaquin Niemann and Patrick Reed not far behind.
Commenting on the competition, Reed mentioned that with the wind dying down and favourable conditions, the players were able to achieve excellent scores. Surratt’s impressive 65 is indicative of his growing skill and confidence since joining LIV Golf as a young rookie.
The team standings reveal Cleeks GC in the lead, followed by Torque GC, Ripper GC, Legion XIII, 4Aces GC, and Fireballs GC among others, with some of the top golfers showcasing their talent in this tournament.
It is evident that Surratt and Cleeks GC are on a promising trajectory, and their performance at LIV Golf Houston serves as a testament to their potential for success in the remainder of the season.
