Luke Shaw, the Manchester United footballer, has recently discussed the difficult decision he had to make regarding his fitness, which ultimately affected his chances of playing in the Euros. He expressed disappointment in the way some fans questioned his dedication to the club after he suffered an injury while striving to make it to the FA Cup Final.
Following a hamstring injury at Aston Villa, Shaw was asked by manager Erik ten Hag to play against Luton. Despite not having trained the whole week, Shaw decided to play when the manager requested it, feeling a sense of duty to the team. However, he now believes that playing in that condition was a mistake, and he partly holds the medical staff as well as himself responsible for the situation.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag believes that a series of injuries played a role in Manchester United’s poor performance, leading them to finish in eighth place. As the Dutchman awaits news about his job, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has called for an investigation into the high number of injuries the team suffered.
In addition to the physical setback, Shaw was disheartened when some fans questioned his commitment to the club, assuming that he was fit to play for England but not for Manchester United. He clarified that he was close to returning to team training and had pushed beyond his limits in an attempt to make a comeback for the final games, resulting in another hamstring injury.
Despite the challenges he faced, Shaw remains committed to Manchester United and prioritises the team above all else. He emphasised that his dedication to the club will never waver, and he is determined to contribute in any way he can.
