Rafa Nadal Speaks to Graduates at Rafa Nadal Academy

In a moving ceremony, 52 young students have successfully concluded their academic and tennis training at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar, located on the campus in Manacor. The event, which has become a customary tradition, was overseen by Rafa Nadal himself. During his address to the families, educators, and graduating students, he underscored the significance of leaving a positive legacy and being remembered as virtuous individuals.

Nadal fondly recalled a recent discussion with his friend and rival Roger Federer in the Italian Dolomites. The two esteemed tennis players deliberated on how they wished to be remembered in the years to come, both concurring that being remembered as morally upstanding individuals was of paramount importance. Nadal urged the graduates to contemplate how they desired to be commemorated by their peers, mentors, and companions, urging them to aspire to be leaders with commendable values rather than simply seeking power or influence.

The ceremony also featured Carlos Moyà, a former world number 1, winner of the 1998 French Open, and a recipient of 20 ATP titles, as the esteemed guest speaker. With a longstanding association with Nadal, Moyà offered profound insights into Nadal’s character and virtues, highlighting the respect and camaraderie that has defined their relationship both on and off the court.

The graduation ceremony at the Rafa Nadal Academy has evolved into a significant event for budding tennis players, with previous speakers including prominent sports figures such as Pau Gasol, David Ferrer, Ona Carbonell, Ricky Rubio, and Iga Swiatek. Notably, even Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova participated in previous graduation ceremonies, albeit remotely in 2020.
