A team of golf enthusiasts are preparing to undertake a remarkable challenge to raise funds for a noteworthy cause. Their goal is to raise £10,000 in support of Dean Fox, a resident of Middlesbrough who is bravely battling motor neurone disease (MND).
54-year-old Dean Fox was diagnosed with MND in August of last year. Instead of giving up, he took the initiative to establish the Dean Fox MND Foundation, with the objective of raising awareness about MND and collecting funds for research and support groups. The group is now embarking on a 24-hour golfing challenge, named the “Three Peaks of Golf”, in a determined effort to raise much-needed funds.
The challenge will span three different countries, with three teams of four playing three rounds of golf over the course of a day. The event, appropriately named ‘The MND Drive for Dean’, symbolises Dean’s unwavering fight against the disease.
Commencing on June 27, the first leg of the 54-hole sporting feat will begin in Scotland at Lockerbie Golf Club. The teams will then drive overnight to Wales to play 18 holes at Llangollen Golf Club’s challenging course. Finally, in England, the completion of the gruelling challenge will take place at Preston Golf Club in Lancashire.
One of the notable participants in the challenge is former New Zealand international rugby player, Robbie Hunter-Paul. Robbie, now a successful businessman, avid golfer, and BBC TV pundit, will be taking part in the event.
Dean Fox, alongside his wife Christine, eagerly anticipates this event. With the support of their family, friends, and the community, their objective is to effect positive change through this initiative. According to Dean, “MND is a tough opponent, but we believe that together, we can drive change.”
The event is the brainchild of businessmen Steven Logan and Ben Cooper, with the support of Dan Sumner. Together, they have embarked on this unique, yet challenging, fundraiser. Steven Logan expressed, “Having arranged other charity fundraising events, we wanted to put together an event that would be bigger and better than anything we’ve done before. It’s going to be an extremely tough 24 hours, but everyone involved is committed to succeeding, both on the courses and in raising cash for such worthy causes.”
Ben Cooper also shared his enthusiasm for the challenge and emphasized the significance of coming together for a cause greater than oneself. He added, “It’s a humbling reminder of the importance of rallying together for a cause greater than ourselves.”
All proceeds from the event will be equally divided between the Dean Fox MND Foundation and MNDA. To contribute to this noble cause, donations can be made via the GoFundMe page for the event. This is a wonderful opportunity to show support for those battling MND and contribute towards finding a cure for this devastating disease.
The unwavering dedication showcased by Dean and his supporters is truly inspiring. Let us unite to extend our help and make a difference for those fighting MND.
