Tennis prodigy Jannik Sinner is preparing for Wimbledon with a firm dedication to his career despite his recent success and notoriety. The 22-year-old Italian recently achieved the top spot in the ATP rankings for the first time in his career after triumphing over Novak Djokovic at the French Open. Sinner also secured his first Grand Slam title in Australia and advanced to the semi-finals at Roland-Garros, where he was ultimately defeated by eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.
Despite now being positioned as the second favourite to win at Wimbledon by bookies, Sinner remains grounded and humble. In a recent statement, he stressed the importance of his close-knit support system and simple pleasures, such as engaging in card games with his loved ones.
Sinner conveyed, “My family, my beloved ones, and my friends and I always remain unchanged. These achievements are just a part of my journey. Naturally, everyone is thrilled, and I am fortunate to be able to share these moments with them. However, I remain the same person I was one or two years ago. I cherish spending quality time with them, engaging in various activities such as go-karting or playing cards. That is where I find true contentment.”
Sinner regards his parents as “perfect parents” and acknowledges their sacrifice of not attending his tournament victories this year to stay in South Tyrol, northeast Italy, to care for his grandparents and work at a ski resort. He attributes much of his success to their unwavering support, particularly their encouragement to focus solely on tennis after leaving competitive skiing in his adolescent years.
Despite his extraordinary achievements at a young age, Sinner remains dedicated to continually honing his skills. He stated, “I awake with a specific objective, and my primary aspiration is to advance as a player and as an individual. In my mind, I have always been resolute in my commitment to hard work, and I firmly believe that my tenacity will yield positive results.”
Presently leading Spaniard Alcaraz by 900 points in the ATP rankings, Sinner and Alcaraz are both projected to exert significant influence in men’s tennis in the future. After Alcaraz’s victory at the French Open, where he also secured his third Grand Slam win, the 21-year-old has procured the world No.2 position.
With an inspiring devotion to both his athletic pursuits and personal principles, Sinner’s example serves as a testament to his unwavering nature as he continues to captivate the world of tennis.
