India’s Hockey Squad Gears Up for National Camp

Hockey India has officially announced the selection of 27 players for the forthcoming senior men’s national coaching camp, scheduled to commence on June 21 and conclude on July 8 at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru.

The coaching camp holds substantial significance as the Indian team gears up for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Placed in Pool B alongside Belgium, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia, and Ireland, the Indian men’s team will commence their Olympic campaign against New Zealand on July 27.

Following a commendable performance in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023/24, where they have accumulated 24 points from 16 matches and currently hold the fourth position, the team is eager to fine-tune their preparations in the national camp.

The 27-member core probable group for the national camp comprises goalkeepers Krishan Bahadur Pathak, PR Sreejesh, Suraj Karkera, and defenders Harmanpreet Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Jugraj Singh, Sanjay, and Amir Ali.

The midfielders who have been summoned to the camp include Manpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Sumit, Shamsher Singh, Nilakanta Sharma, Rajkumar Pal, Vishnukant Singh, Akashdeep Singh, and Mohammed Raheel Mouseen. The list of forwards features Mandeep Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Abhishek, Dilpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Gurjant Singh, Boby Singh Dhami, and Araijeet Singh Hundal.

Chief coach of the Indian men’s hockey team, Craig Fulton, has underscored the importance of the forthcoming camp, stating, “We are looking to commence a vital phase of training in this camp, and it is imperative that we ensure that we are in optimal form ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The players have gleaned invaluable insights from their matches in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023/24, which has enabled us to identify areas for improvement. We have ample time to address these areas. We have a formidable group of players who have the capability to triumph in any event.”

The players are gearing up to maximise the benefits of the national coaching camp as they aim to equip themselves for the revered Paris 2024 Olympics, with the collective objective of bringing glory to India in the realm of hockey.
