Tennis enthusiasts worldwide were elated when Swiss tennis icon Roger Federer, retired at the age of 42, hinted at the possibility of his children following in his footsteps on the tennis court. Federer, who has been devoting quality time to his family since retiring, disclosed that one of his sons is beginning to display a strong interest in pursuing tennis seriously.
In an interview with People, Federer conveyed that he has never been inclined to pressure his children into playing tennis, but rather encourages them to discover their own passions. While the girls have not exhibited much enthusiasm for the sport, one of his sons, Leo, is starting to take a serious interest in tennis. Federer noted, “The boys love their soccer. Leo is beginning to show interest in getting serious about tennis. Lenny is much more creative, he’s very into drawing, reading.”
Making the transition from life on the professional tennis circuit to retired life has been a significant adjustment for Federer. He now relishes spending time with his family, waking up early in the mornings to assist in preparing the children for school and being more involved in their daily routines. He expressed, “It’s a very vital time for me to be around them, to help them and guide them and obviously let them fly on their own as well.”
One thing that continues to unite the Federer family is their passion for the Wimbledon tennis tournament, where Roger achieved tremendous success throughout his career. His children are already displaying an interest in the historic grounds of Wimbledon, with Federer stating, “The other day they were asking if we could go to Wimbledon because they wanted to walk the courts. I’m just happy their life on the road was such a good memory.”
It is heartwarming to witness a tennis legend like Roger Federer wholeheartedly embracing his role as a supportive and involved father, guiding his children while allowing them to explore their own passions and interests. As for the future of the Federer name on the tennis court, only time will tell if we will see another generation of Federers gracing the iconic courts of Wimbledon and Roland Garros.
