We are delighted to announce that the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame (USMAHOF) has chosen to honour Professor Alfred Hogan with induction into the Hall of Fame. Professor Hogan, a 1st Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the esteemed proprietor of Team Randori Martial Arts in Annapolis, MD, will be formally celebrated at a distinguished ceremony and banquet to be held at The Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV on 20 July 2024.
Professor Hogan’s ardor for martial arts originated in Okinawa, Japan, where he commenced his study of Karate as a young boy. He further developed his expertise in Tae Kwon Do during his tenure in the U.S. Army. It was during his military service that he encountered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a martial art that captivated his passion. In 2013, he established his own Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Annapolis, MD, where he has subsequently guided and trained countless students.
The proficiency exhibited by Professor Hogan in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is truly outstanding. He has secured numerous triumphs in a variety of contests, including the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF), where he emerged victorious in the Masters Worlds Championship in 2015 and 2018. His exceptional prowess also led to triumph at the IBJJF Pan Americans and New York BJJ Pro Championship in 2019. As a testament to his exceptional achievements, he was bestowed with his Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2019 by Professor Carlos Eduardo Lima Placido.
In addition to his martial arts prowess, Professor Hogan possesses a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology, which he has utilized to support the We Defy Foundation in providing Jiu Jitsu training as a therapeutic measure for service members contending with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). His commitment to positively impacting the lives of individuals grappling with PTSD and other combat-related disabilities is genuinely laudable, and he continues to effectuate a constructive difference in the Annapolis community.
Inclusion in the USMAHOF is a distinguished accolade that acknowledges an individual’s contribution to the martial arts domain, as well as the discipline, dedication, and sacrifices demanded to achieve the esteemed Black Belt. Professor Hogan’s induction reflects the esteem and regard he commands from his peers and the broader martial arts community.
The USMAHOF aims to recognise deserving martial artists from all disciplines across the world, and the impending induction of Professor Hogan serves as affirmation of his outstanding skill, commitment, and positive influence within the martial arts realm.
