The Chilliwack Chiefs are preparing for an eventful summer as they make final arrangements to commence their hockey development programs catering to enthusiasts of all ages.
Scheduled to begin on July 2 and continue for six weeks, the Chiefs Hockey Academy junior programs are set to kick off. This camp, which will run three days a week, is tailored for players in the U11, U13, U15 and U18 age groups, catering to individuals of varying skill levels. Participants will have the chance to learn from experienced members of the Chiefs coaching and training staff, including head coach Brian Maloney, associate coaches Brad Rihela and Andrew Shaw, and Edmonton Oilers prospect Jake Chiasson.
In a recent announcement, the academy revealed a new three-day back-to-school program for younger players in the U7 and U9 age groups, starting on June 24. This program will be overseen by the same staff members involved in the junior programs, with the participation of several Chiefs players as well. The young players will also benefit from an ‘introduction to training and nutrition’ program led by Chiefs off-ice trainers Kirsten Hijdra and Cheya Grant at the Coliseum’s Training Shed, highlighting the importance of maintaining good fitness and nutrition habits from an early age.
Regarding hockey operations, the club is planning to host a U15 AAA showcase camp in addition to their annual ID camps, with further details to be announced in due course.
Brad Rihela, Chiefs associate coach and director of hockey development, stated, “Our main goal here is to ensure we are using every resource at our disposal to offer the best development options in the region for all ages.”
For those interested in participating in the July and August programming, there are still available spaces. Those interested can find more information on the Chiefs’ social media platforms or visit the academy’s website.
The Chilliwack Chiefs Hockey Academy is undoubtedly paving the way for a fruitful and eventful summer season, providing an exciting opportunity for hockey enthusiasts of all ages to sharpen their skills and develop a passion for the sport.
